Our beginnings

When a community of people, with a passion to see God at work, come together great things happen.

In 2005 the people of  Grace Lutheran Church in Loves Park, IL voted almost unanimously to step out in faith and begin a new faith community in Machesney Park. In March of 2006 they gave life to GPS Faith Community.  For five years we gathered at the ShowPlace 14 on Sunday morning for worship and met in homes, coffee shops, libraries and wherever we could throughout the week to develop.

With the blessing of Grace Lutheran Church, GPS Faith Community formally organized as a congregation of the www.elca.org in May of 2010.

On March 27th 2011 we opened our new worship and ministry center at 10714 N. Second St. Machesney Park, IL. It is on the frontage road on the west side of 251. The space is an old bar that we transformed into our mission outpost. After being there for 10 years we felt God calling us to put down permanent roots.

On October 24th 2021 we worshiped for the first time in our new location at 11189 Forest Hills Rd.  We are excited for what God has for us as we live out our purpose and God's mission.
